AAHHHH,,,Make It Stop !!!!!

I knew when we purchased a 100 yr old Victorian home that there would be a lot of work involved in getting it back into shape. Over the years it had been changed around and odd little things added. So we started our quest to restore the home back to its original grandeur. First the orange carpet was trashed to reveal oak floors, which in the coarse of a few days where refinished and now are beautiful. Next was the 2 month odyssey of tearing down the main stairway (which had changed directions several time over the years) and putting it back where it belonged and replacing add-ons with oak and original pieces we found in storage in the crawl-space. It turned out grand. We completed other little nips and tucks here and there, slowly but surly making it our home.

So the most recent project, that has taken up the last 2 weeks, was the kitchen. I thought it would be a simple 1 week job, but as usual nothing goes as planned. In a nutshell we redid the ceiling and walls (plaster), installed new crown and blocks, re-painted, tore up 3 layers of linoleum, put down new sub-floor and then new tile and then re-touched up the paint again. Now all that is left is the new counter tops and I can finally cross that job off the list.

Finally I can take a rest. (Never thought I would be happy to return to work after a vacation, but I need the rest after a working vacation) next project coming up will stretch from fall to spring. That will be restoring the original front porch. Over the years metal railing and posts where put up and the old wood beams and railing where put in the crawl-space. So the fall/winter months will be me stripping years of paint off the surviving pieces and then frabricating new pieces to replace those missing and then in the spring I can hopefully get the porch put back together.

If my sanity holds out that long.
